The TD124 mkII goes fairly high on eBay these days and I recently came across this one from Germany. Tonearms : mostly Thorens BTD 12 S, SME, Ortofon, Thorens TP 14 (TD 124 Mk II) AC 4pole induction motor, belt/idler wheel drive, 16, 33, 45 and 78 rpm, mechanically switched, pitch, platter weight 4.5 kg (cast iron) or 3.0 kg (zinc alloy), top platter (aluminium) with clutch, manual operation. Thorens applied the direct drive technique when designing their semi professional studio motor deck, the TD 524 (the "24" reminiscing the TD 124).

The Swiss made Thorens TD-124 is one of the most desired and famous turntables ever made. A properly set up TD-124 can outperform far more expensive current day turntables. Proper set up is not easy though and requires some mastery of the technique. It was introduced in 1957 and in production up until 1965 when the MK2 version was released.
